Our approach to School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) is guided by the Resilience, Rights, and Respectful Relationships framework (RRRR), which is supported by the Victorian Department of Education.
What is SWPBS?
School-wide positive behaviour support (SWPBS) is a framework that brings our school community together to develop a positive, safe and supportive learning culture.
SWPBS assists schools to improve social, emotional, behavioural and academic outcomes for children and young people.
SWPBS practices and supports have been designed using research and evidence that have been demonstrated to be effective.
Introducing, modelling, and reinforcing positive social behaviour is an important step of a student’s educational experience. Teaching behavioural expectations in line with our school values of Respect, Responsibility, Integrity and Safety, and acknowledging students’ efforts through the use of our Gotcha! system, is a positive proactive approach to behaviour management.
The SWPBS approach fosters an environment where teachers and students have more time to focus on relationships and classroom instruction.
Staff and students benefit from:
At Moolap Primary School we have developed a Whole School Behaviour Matrix which is displayed prominently throughout the school. This matrix clearly states the behaviours we expect of our students in all settings within the school. The behaviour expectations have been grouped in accordance to our school values of Respect, Responsibility, Integrity and Safety. Our teachers explicitly teach the positive behaviour expectations just as we explicitly teach academics.
By integrating these we ensure that all students feel safe, valued and empowered to contribute positively to their school and community.
